Adaptive Teaching Course

Scuba diving is one of the most incredible teaching and healing tools that there is. It is open to anyone who wants to learn and can have a profound effect on peoples lives. Just the feeling of being weightless and free is incredible.

We love teaching scuba to people of all abilities and this month, PADI, has launched their Adaptive teaching techniques program and Adaptive support Diver, which are two great courses designed to assist you teach and accompany scuba divers of all abilities.

adaptive scuba divingThe first program is the Adaptive support Diver. This program is designed so that you can learn some of the additional techniques for assisting someone with different abilities when they go scuba diving. You essentially are their buddy underwater and can then assist them with entering and exiting the water, putting on the gear if needed and helping them throughout the dive as much or as little as they need.

The second program is the Adaptive Teaching techniques. This is designed for someone who is in dive professional training or already holds a professional license. So, if you are enrolled in, or have completed a PADI Divemaster program or instructor course this would be a great program for you.  Again it is looking at different tools and techniques that you can use to teach to any person with different abilities. You still would be teaching or guiding using the PADI (or other certification agency) standards for each of their programs but thinking outside the box in how you can assist people achieve their skills and goals. It covers, gear adaptations, entries and exits, swimming techniques and more.

What you have to remember is that when you are talking about adaptive teaching you are not just talking about people with physical adaptations, it may be psychological as well. There are so many people out there who can be touched by scuba, why don't you open up your tool box and help bring it to them?
