I knew I wanted to become a Divemaster. But I wanted to do more than just that with my summer. I wanted to gain a new perspective and an experience in a foreign country. With a bit of searching, I found Oceans Unlimited and knew it was the right move. It was beyond anything I could have imagined. From the moment I landed in Quepos, I was welcomed into the family. Georgia, JT and Bob made my time in Costa Rica far easier and more enjoyable.
The training is top notch. All of them are very professional and thorough. But they’re also fun and friendly. They have a wealth of knowledge and are eager to share it so I learned to capitalize on that. DM training was challenging but always fun. I made some of the best friends. I had to pinch myself everyday. I mean, come on, I was living in Costa Rica.
Georgia arranged a home stay for me, which could not have gone better. I adored my host parents and really got to work on my spanish. It was never a dull moment in that house. I never wanted to leave.
I made a real connection with the town and the area too. On days off I got to go to the finca with the family and to Manuel Antonio National Park. I even learned to surf! It’s great to have so many connections there. Georgia helped me meet a rafting company owner who let me whitewater kayak with his tour as a safety boater. So I actually got on the river twice!
I learned so much from the experience, about diving and myself and a different culture. I wouldn’t trade my time there for anything and I truly miss waking up in that brutal humidity everyday. As much as I cried when I left, I grin every time I remember that I will go back again someday.
